POLITICS CONTINUES
Well , as ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY’s ( AMU ) Vice Chancellor, Prof. PK Abdul Aziz , prepares for his exit from office on the end of his term on 17th January, 2011; hunt for the next VC has already started, with enough speculations already made in media and local press . Panel of 20 nominees has already been forwarded to University’s Court , whose meeting was supposed to be held on 13th December , was postponed due to Visitor’s ( President ) intervention, ahead of charges of corruption on VC .
Forwarded 20 nominees include CIC head ( IAS ) , VC of Jivaji University , VC of Manywar Shri Kanshiram Urdu Arabi Farsi University ( Lucknow ) and some other IAS and academicians . A big question arises; who should be ideally the next VC of AMU ?
Some say, an academician will rule well, so some argue that an IAS would do the same job well ! Let me tell you , Who the hell thinks VC should rule in an university ? Is AMU a country in which anarchy is valid, that whosoever takes the charge of VC will become its ruler ? NOT AT ALL . Let me tell everyone , that VC’s job is to administer the system , to make sure that day to day work is on a smooth track , but not to RULE !
But in the past, some have mistaken this truth and they have literally ruled the varsity. They have used this post to fulfill their own needs, which is not acceptable anymore. Take the example, already Prof Aziz is facing serious financial irregularities and three different enquiries led by CBI, CAG and Fact Finding Commission are going on against him . This in turn has created various Lobbies in AMU, one anti VC and the other ProVC . Now, I am confused, is this an academic institute or a political arena where everyone is having their share in controversies? It’s a shame in name of academics. So, the politics continues.
AMU teachers association (AMUTA) which tries to prove that they are well wishers of AMU by holding protests in campus against VC, thus encouraging other anti social groups from outside to hamper the discipline of AMU, is not doing any good for the varsity. I supposed that teachers were supposed to teach rather than sitting on Dharna , but I was completely wrong; especially in case of AMU. There are various other methods to protest, but sitting on Dharna, and holding long rallies in protest is not a good sign for any institution. Because in each case, its we the students who have to suffer and the politics continues.
