In a short span of time since its creation, the Department of Computer Engineering has performed exceedingly well on academic front. The success of a Department is best judge by the performance of its students. The students have fared commendably in various national as well as International level competitions like, GATE, CAT, GRE, SAT etc. They have secured admissions to higher studies at institutions of repute. The training and skills that they acquire have aided in their overwhelming success at placements in prestigious organizations both at national as well as global level.
The Department of Electronics Engineering was formally created in February 1988 on a proposal submitted by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, to the University Grants Commission.During the short span and with limited resources at its command, the department had made remarkable progress in terms of developing infrastructure, updating course structure and syllabi and upgrading laboratories to the level comparable with those of the best institutions of the country.
The department of Electrical Engineering (EED) was established in 1935 with an intake of 20 students for certificate courses and subsequently started Bachelors Degree programme in 1940 and produced its first graduate in 1943. A new phase of major developments in the department started during third five-year plan when the intake was raised to 90.The department was bifurcated in 1988 with creation of a separate Deptt. of Electronics Engg.
The Deptt. has a very well qualified teaching staff actively engaged in teaching & research and contributing effectively in administrative & corporate life of the campus. The experimental computational and related facilities available in the department are located in the following Laboratories: Turbine/Pump, Fluid Mechanics, Aerodynamics/Turbomachines, Microprocessor Applications, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Internal Combustion Engines, Heat Power, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Combustion & Pollution Control, Heat Transfer, Machinery Dynamics, Stress Analysis/Tribology, Production Engineering, Computers and Robotics, Material Science, Metrology & CNC, Quality Assurance, CAD & CAM.
The Department of Civil Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, has been constantly contributing to the cause of engineering education and training right since its inception in the year 1942. Over the last five decades, the department has grown manifold and shared immensely in the technology transfer and the propagation of technological advancements to the industry in particular and to the masses in general. The department has a very well qualified faculty supported by excellent laboratories and the state of the art computing facilities. The department owns a rich library having 9000 text and reference books.
The idea of the creation of the Department of Chemical Engineering at A.M.U. was born with the visit of His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan of the UAE in 1975 as a beginning towards the larger goal of establishing an Institute of Petroleum Studies. As a first step in this direction, the approval of the UGC was obtained for the creation of the Department in the fifth Five Year Plan and it came into existence in 1978, when the first five year undergraduate course in Chemical Engineering started with an intake of thirty students (now it is a four year degree course as everywhere).
The Department of Architecture was established in the year 1993 & the First batch graduated in the year 1998. The Department is under the faculty of Engineering and Technology and runs as per the norms of the Council of Architecture and AICTE..The department aims to develop a great seat of learning for young Architects with high intellectual qualities to meet the challenges of the changing scenario of the world. The department is committed to maintain high standards of discipline and achieve high academic excellence. To achieve this, the effort has to be planned in a pragmatic manner taking stock of what exists and what needs to be developed/ required in time with the standards prescribed by COA in a phased manner.
